Sel & Poivre (Salt & Pepper) French Restaurant, Darlinghurst, Sydney.

by Nick on October 11, 2007

If you love French food, then Sel & Poivre is a must if you are visiting (or live) in Sydney.

The atmosphere is delightfully cosy, with candlelit tables, French music (no, not Édith Piaf or accordion), and French staff that just ooze charm and elegance.

Escargot (snails) are on the menu if you are brave, but there is a delightful selection of delicacies as entreé, main and dessert (yes, try the real créme caramel).

We enjoyed the Coq au Van, Crab and Leek Pastry, Pork Paté, and Seared Steak Tartaré.

All were outstanding, but if you want the choice, Steak Tartaré was the winner. Just have it.

They are licensed, and menus are in French or English (there were quite a few native French speakers dining there).

Also check out the extensive specials of the day.

Prices $10-15 for entrees, $30 for main meals. Wines from $8 per glass, or by the bottle.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
