Oriental Pearl Chinese Restaurant Ballina… Awesome Asian For Not Much Bucks.

by George on December 28, 2006

Wow….

For over three years now I have driven past Oriental Pearl and said "Gee I should eat there some time"… Well tonight was that night and man it was good.

Cheap and Cheerful, Oriental Pearl was easy to find (it’s on the highway as you leave Ballina heading towards Grafton) complete with parking via the shops next door.

It’s a wonderfully "Muriels Wedding" style restaurant complete with "Honey Prawns" and steaming plates of sizzling beef.

We enjoyed a bounty of…

  • Home made vegetarian curry puffs -> very nice
  • Fried scallops with almonds -> divine, there were  none left by the time we were done…
  • Sizzling sezcheun beef -> just enough spice to get the eyes glazed.
  • BBQ pork with plum sauce… Perfect, and my favourite plate tonight.

This of course was accompanied by fried rice sans prawns…

Overall this really was a great meal.   The food was fantastic with generous serves and fantastic flavour. The place was packed and it was popular with the local Asians, which according to rumors is always a good sign.

Prices were great with most plates going for $14-16 which is pretty amazing if you have come from Byron Bay or Lennox Heads…

Oriental Pearl is also BYO but if you forget to hit the bottle shop before you arrive then not to worry, they have beer and wine as well.

So there you go, this place is very good and I give it 5 wantons.

Be sure you check them out the next time you have a hankering for Chinese cuisine and you are down Byron way.
(Be sure to mention this blog when you get there!)
